Cord blood match found for multiracial Broadway star
Shannon Tavarez is an 11 year-old Broadway star and a multiracial leukemia patient. Being African American and Dominican has increased the difficulty of finding a match for a much-needed bone marrow or cord blood transplant. Thankfully a match has been found and Shannon, who played Nala in the Lion King, will be undergoing the procedure this week.
Stories like Shannon's are the reason Project Race is turning our primary focus to medical issues facing the multiracial population! Check out the article and please keep her and her family in your prayers.
Thanks, Kendall
