Multiracial Father of Six in Need of Bone Marrow Transplant

Alex (son) and Gary D'Hue
Gary D’Hue is a 50 year old father of six. He is multiracial, half black and half white. A friend of Gary’s recently contacted us to help spread the word that Gary is battling recurrent mantle cell lymphoma and is in need of a bone marrow transplant and is yet to find a suitable match. When Gary is well he is an incredible athlete who imports and trains dogs for police departments. His friend Peggy says, “Gary has more drive and determination than anyone I’ve ever met before and his beautiful smile always helps his charm shine through.” Gary is being treated in the V.A. Hospital in West Haven, CT.
We recently shared with you the story of Shannon Tavarez, an 11 year old multiracial actress who lost her battle with leukemia. This disease strikes people of all ages and multiracial people are at elevated risk due to the difficulty finding a match for bone marrow transplants. Ethnically diverse people – specifically multiracial donors – are critically needed in the marrow donor registry. But you can help! Joining the registry is easy; you complete a short health questionnaire, sign a form stating that you understand what it means to be listed on the Registry, and then a small swab of cheek cells is taken to find your tissue type. That’s it.
