LEGISLATION INTRODUCED IN CALIFORNIA!

Project RACE drafted and is supporting a bill in California for K-12 students to be able to identify themselves as biracial or multiracial on school forms in the state. We are very excited about this legislation, since it outlines a way for any educational system to allow biracial and multiracial children the respect and dignity they deserve while staying within the federal guidelines.

We especially wish to thank Assembly Member Anthony Portantino for introducing and sponsoring AB 1281 for the children of California. He has also introduced AB 52 (California Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Program), which will also help save the lives of multiracial children and adults, as a medical program similar to bone marrow donation. Project RACE is endorsing AB 52.

We need help. If you are a Project RACE or Teen Project RACE member in the State of California, it is important that you help to get AB 1281 passed. We need statewide members, other associations and organizations, as well as multiracial individuals and interracial families in the state capital of Sacramento to help with this important effort.

If you live in California, please e-mail projectrace@sbcglobal.net to be added to our mailing list to endorse AB 1281. We will send the legislation to you with a fact sheet and keep you updated. Please let people in California know about this issue and its importance.
