The Following States Have Enacted Legislation

OHIO – Am.Sub. H.B. No.154, effective 1992, Governor Voinovich.

ILLINOIS — Senate Bill No. 421, effective January 1, 1996, Governor Edgar.

GEORGIA — Senate Bill 149, effective July 1, 1994, Governor Miller. This is the most progressive legislation in the country. It covers all school forms, state agency forms, employment forms and applications.

INDIANA — House Enrolled Act No. 1592, effective July 1, 1995, Governor Bayh.

MICHIGAN — House Bill 5399 and House Bill No. 5400, 1995, Governor Engler.

MARYLAND — House Bill 253, effective July 1, 1998, Governor Glendening.


The Following States Have Adopted the
Multiracial Classification by Administrative Mandate

NORTH CAROLINA — Accepted by the State Department of Education October 1, 1994.

FLORIDA — Accepted by the State Department of Education August, 1995.


The Following States Introduced Legislation in 1997

MINNESOTA — Senate File #449, introduced by Senator Don Betzold on February 10.

TEXAS — SB851, sponsored by Senator Rodney Ellis.
