Petri Stabs Multiracial Community
Date: 1997
Congressman Thomas Petri (R-Wisconsin) changed his mind about the bill he sponsored (H.R. 830), which called for a multiracial classification. Petri made this surprise announcement on the last day of federal hearings. He admitted that he met with officials at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and then changed his mind about the legislation. He did not show up at a meeting scheduled with people from the multiracial community later that day.
Mr. Petri can be reached via e-mail at petri@hr.house.gov. His district is Wiconsin's 6th--Central, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac. If you would like to let Mr. Petri know your feelings on his treatment of the multiracial community, please e-mail him. If you live in his district, you may want to remember that Mr. Petri has chosen NOT to represent the best interests of the multiracial community--in his state or on a federal level.
